- It is not aluminum oxide. It's pretty much pure aluminum, though it may be coated with a very thin layer of wax or plastic. As for the independent experiment, be careful and wear goggles and other protective clothing. I was in high school once too, and can tell you from experience that thermite burns very, very hot and is quite good at melting or combusting a wide variety of materials. It also requires a fairly hot ignition source, and magnesium strips are often used for that purpose as a kind of fuse. If you don't have access to that, figure something else out, but do *not* attempt to light thermite directly with a blowtorch. You want to be much farther away by the time it lights, and it would be a bad idea to lay the torch there and back away because that places the torch's potentially explosive fuel supply much too close to the reaction.

- Aluminium sheets is not too difficult to bend, but should use a good bending maschine. The thicker the sheet is the bigger the bend radius must be. Experiment with small pieces until u find the radius where it does not crack anymore. WAY different to steel or copper that can be bent into sparp radiuses l l _____________) radius
- Q:I'm buying a sword this afternoon for about 100 bucks i'm using it mainly to take pictures of and hang it on my wall. I looked up tips about buying swords and i think the sword i want is made out of aluminum. Could i use this sword as protection on an armed robber who would break into my house?
- a) yes it can be used for self defense, but it's going to be a stabbing weapon. Aluminum swords are garbage quality and are simply unable to hold a cutting edge, and b) There have been legal cases where people using stabbing weapons in perfectly justifiable self defense have been charged with manslaughter. The rationale was that if you're strong enough to kill someone with a stabbing weapon then you're strong enough to defend yourself (and not kill someone) without needing to use a stabbing weapon. This is crap that only a soft on crime liberal prosecutor could dream up. If I were you, I'd keep the aluminum sword on the wall, and if you can't afford a shotgun, then get a baseball bat. Those things will break bones, smash skulls, and otherwise bring an attack to an immediate end and since it's common sports equipment you'll look like you grabbed the first thing in desperation rather than you wanted to practice your Samurai skills the first chance you got. - Thimerosal is not the same as mercury. It's a mercury-based preservative which to prevent the growth of germs, bacteria and fungi, that can contaminate them. It's used in seasonal flu vaccine because the vaccine is produced in large quantities and often in multi-dose vials. Thimerosal helps safeguard against possible contamination of the vial once it is opened. The aluminum in vaccines is aluminum hydroxide, aluminum phosphate, alum (potassium aluminum sulfate), or mixed aluminum salts. They're an adjuvant added to enhance the immune response in the vaccinated individual. Whether or not something is toxic has to do with how much a person receives not the substance itself. People can die from drinking too much water, but we don't go around calling water toxic. The amount of mercury or aluminum in vaccines is so small that it's not toxic. You ingest more mercury by eating fish and a baby ingest more aluminum in breast milk than they get in a vaccine. So if mercury and aluminum caused head aches, severe hot burning heads or sinusitis in a person, that person would have a lot more to worry about than vaccines since they would be exposed to those things in so many other ways.
