Aluminium foil has a shiny side and a matte side. The shiny side is produced when the aluminium is rolled during the final pass. It is difficult to produce rollers with a gap fine enough to cope with the foil gauge, therefore, for the final pass, two sheets are rolled at the same time, doubling the thickness of the gauge at entry to the rollers. When the sheets are later separated, the inside surface is dull, and the outside surface is shiny. This difference in the finish has led to the perception that favouring a side has an effect when cooking. While many believe that the different properties keep heat out when wrapped with the shiny finish facing out, and keep heat in with the shiny finish facing inwards, the actual difference is imperceptible without instrumentation.
Thin sheets of aluminium are not very effective at attenuating low-frequency magnetic fields. The shielding effectiveness is dependent upon the skin depth. A field traveling through one skin depth will lose about 63 percent of its energy (it is attenuated to 1/e = 1/2.718... of its original energy). Thin shields also have internal reflections that reduce the shielding effectiveness. For effective shielding from a magnetic field, the shield should be several skin depths thick. Aluminium foil is about 1 mil (25 µm); a thickness of 10 mils (250 µm) (ten times thicker) offers less than 1 dB of shielding at 1 kHz, about 8 dB at 10 kHz, and about 25 dB at 100 kHz.

- Q:As for graphite and aluminum sheet, which one has a better thermal conductivity?
- Aluminum sheet has a better thermal conductivity, because metal is good conductor of heat, graphite is n't metal.
- Q:It is a club aluminium dutch oven from the 50's. It is discolored on the interior and has baked on dirt on the exterior. The exterior has a textured surface which makes cleaning more difficult. I tried baking soda and water paste, but it did not budge it!
- I have an aluminum double boiler.. that I only used for making pie pudding and yes, it got yucky. I found something and I cleaned it and i was so proud of myself but that was a while ago and it am racking my brain to remember. - Aluminum metal is not found in nature, only aluminum oxide is in the mine or ground and they have to separate it from the oxidation to make a useful metal.

- Aluminum rims are a whole lot better on the mechanical stand point, they are lighter, usually stronger (depending on the alloy) and they allow for better heat disapation. Lighter rims will save gas money (nothing you will notice, maybe an extra mile/tank, if that). Depending on the alloy used in the aluminum rims, they are usually stronger and can take more froce abuse, just as long as they don't get scuffed up, ect. With the better heat disapation. When the brakes heat up, the heat is sent out ever direction, mostly through metal. Aluminum (alloy) is a great conductor of heat.
- Q:What keeps things colder- plastic wrap or aluminum foil?
- Aluminum foil. It is thicker, and metal retains heat/cold longer than the thin film of plastic would. I actually use both when I freeze things like lasagna...I use a layer of plastic wrap on it first, then a layer of foil over the top. It creates an extra (albeit fine) layer of insulation.
- Q:I have to wire solar DC photovoltaic panels and have always used at least an 8 gauge wire. Recently, I installed a solar electric fence and they recommended special electric fence wire that can handle 10,000 volts. It looks aluminum. The fence techs told me copper is only rated for 600 volts. And the power will leak through the insulation. They also say copper will corrode and created insulated spots. Does this mean that aluminum doesn't corrode and is it superior to copper? Is is all a lobbying scam to force us to buy copper? Can I use the electric fence wire in my solar wiring?
- The fence tech advise is wrong. Copper can withstand still higher voltage and there is no limitation at all. The limitation of sustainable voltage only depends on the thickness of insulation and its dielectric strength. perhaps, the fence tech told you that that particular wire israted for 600 V, it may be true. The use of copper and aluminium depends on your economy only and the atmosphere to which it is exposed. normally in both copper and aluminium hanged in atmosphere (fence application) both are inert to atmosphere, both creates a oxide layer which inhibits further corrossion. In some high power wiring the power loss in aluminium wire become perhaps significant comparred to the economy. So you will have to use copper. One advantaeg of coper is, it can be drawn to fine wire and so more releable if used as stranded wire. But aluminium is difficcult to draw into fine wires and if used as solid, more prone to break. (This is applicable to copper also.)

- You'll be fine! It should ball up and you'll eventually pass it! (BLAH) My dog actually ate an entire aluminum foil cupcake tin once! He passed it in a day or 2 (Not that I'm comparing you to a dog! But same kinda thing!) Your stomach kinda hurts probably cause you're freaking out! Our minds like to play tricks on us that way. But if you end up getting lower abdo pain in the next 12-24 hours (sharp, stabbing) then better get it checked out! Good Luck! Watch out for those wrappers next time! ha
